The Redshift
![]() ![]() ![]() There was nothing more that he wanted more in the world. He trained since a child for this moment. To be offered a position in Lord Nygen's guard. To actually be confronting the bandit threat instead of training for it. To be actually saving people from the vile theives. To be a hero. The guard were to strike a suspected bandit camp the very next day. Excited with the news, he ran to Radina's home to tell her the news. She thought it was wonderful, yet seemed distant. When he asked what she was worried about, she said that she was worried he might die, but she did not cry, as she knew this would not be. She had seen him practice. She knew he would not be beaten by mere bandits, yet still, there was a part of her that doubted. He reassured her, swore to her, that he would come back that next night, victory in hand.
That next day, the band of bandit hunters, lead by the Leader of the lord's guard, Ryzuku, left the city. They marched for hours, intill they reached the suspected camp. It seems as the hunch was right, the bandits were in an old cave in the area. The group dispatched the guards and proceeded into the main chamber.
It was then that things turned. Ryzuku suddenly turned on the group. It was he who leaded the bandits, having designs on taking over the city. This was a plan to get rid of all the Lord's best guards in one fell swoop. He fought of the bandits, slaying one after another, but he was overwelmed when the group was cut down by Ryzuku's swordskills. Having no other options left, he ran. He had to warn Lord Nygen about this, lest the town be overun. He did not get away unscathed, as a bandit managed to hit him in the leg with a crossbow bolt. He hobbled to get away, going through the forest, trying to lose his enemies. He fell to the ground, unable to run anymore. He knew death was upon him, and cursed himself for breaking the vow to Radina. Struggling to crawl, he saw her. She looked sad, on the verge of tears.
"I'm sorry..."
The last thing he saw before blacking out was a purple mist.
He woke up in a bed. Confused he looked around. An old man was nearby, poking at a log in a hearth. The old man turned around and smiled.
"Ah, I was afraid you wouldn't make it" the old man said
"Where am I? Am I...dead?"
"You were close. If I had not seen the light from the portal, a reedshark would have probably come along and found an easy meal."
"Reedshark? What is that? Where am I?!"
The old man told him the story of the Call. Try as he might, he couldn't beileve he was drawn to another world. He had stories of people dissappearing in thin air as of late, but did not expect to be one of them, or figure out where they went.
"How do I get back?"
"You can't."
"What?! I have to get back!"
"There is no way back. Mages and scholars have tried, but have failed. Indeed, the only one who could probably send us back would be Asheron himself."
"Then I shall seek him out"
The old man laughed at this and wished him luck. The old man gave him a sword enchanted by fire.
"There are many magical beasts in this world, thanks to the call. You must fight fire with fire."
He set out, taking a new name, The Redshift. Becoming a mercnary of sorts, The Redshift took tasks to slay this monster, or retrive that item to keep himself fed, only one thing truly on his mind. How to get home, and to honor his promise, and to stop Ryzuku.
One day in a tavern, he heard about the Runeguard...a group dedicated to make this world safe and ultimatly, find a way home...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And the rest, they say, is history. The Redshift joined the Runeguard, swearing fealty to Dragonheart of the House of Jara.
